Classic: Young Michael Jackson Audition Tape

We all know that Micheal Jackson influenced a whole new generation of performers, but who did he idolized as a child? Well that question is answered in the following video where you see a very young MJ performing James Brown's "I Got The Feeling". Peep the videos below to see Micheal emulate all of James Brown's moves for a Motown audition back in 1968.

Confirmed!: Chris Brown Returning To The Stage For BET Awards

“Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer,” Chris said to Access in a statement earlier this week. “I am devastated by this great loss, and I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy. My prayers are with his family. Michael will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. He’s the greatest… the best ever. No one will ever be better.”

As per Access Hollywood, Chris Brown will be making his return the the stage this Sunday at the BET Awards as one of the many artist that will pay tribute to Michael Jackson. The news comes after last Monday when Chris plead guilty to assault as part of a plea deal reached with prosecutors to avoid any jail time. There will be a lot of mixed reactions to Chris Brown's 1st public performance on BET, several months after the alleged assault on fellow superstar and former girlfriend Rihanna, but here are my thoughts: When Micheal passed most of us agreed that MJ should not be remembered for the controversy that surrounded him, but for legacy that is his music. So why is it that we do not want to let Chris Brown move on with his life? I am not condoning anything that Chris may have done, but he is a 19 year old kid that made a BIG mistake! People, Chris Brown is not going anywhere weather you like it or not. And besides Micheal would have wanted us to forgive CB. I will go as far as to say that Micheal would have personally wanted Chris to perform any tribute pertaining to himself. It's hard to find a performer out now that has not been influenced by MJ, but in Chris Brown it is the most apparent. Chris is eventually going to make his comeback, so why not start with a performance that pays tribute to a man that tried to bring the world together through his music?

Preview: Kanye West's Louis Vuitton Footwear

Kanye West has been killing the sneaker game this summer with the Nike Air Yeezy's, and now he's about to turn it up another notch with the inclusion of high end footwear (as if Yeezy's were not expensive enough). Earlier this week High Snobiety gave us a sneak peak at Kanye's Louis Vuitton shoes that will drop sometime this summer. The Shoes will premier with two esential models. The LV Don which will be available in 3 different color schemes: white/grey, grey/pink, and a black/black. The LV Jasper is available in 2 different colorways: red/red, and white/purple. The shoes are rumored to start around $900 and up.

So are they worth your $1000? Leave comments.

The Dream – "Hit It On The Road"

This is a new single off of the re-release of The Dream's album called “Love Vs. Money: The Hangover”. This track sounds like Dream's version of Every Girl where he basically lets groupies on the road know what it is. lol

"Now Let the 808 beat up on your ass!"

New Video: Clipse Ft. Kanye - "Kinda Like A Big Deal"

"It's a blessin' to blow a hundred thou in a recession. With no second guessin!"

This is my favorite song right now. It shows glimpses of the old Kanye. This video was filmed in a Brooklyn staircase, and directed by Bernard Gourley.

New Music: Chris Brown - "Smash"

A new CB song has been leaked onto the net, and I am trying to ignore the irony of the song title for obvious reasons. I'm really feeling this song. Say what you want about Auto-tune, but nobody uses better than CB. This is not the finished version of the song (there appears to be lyrics missing for the 2nd verse). Regardless I am sure this song will be bumping on the clubs soon enough.

Drake Now Available On iTunes

via: october's very own

It's phenomenal how successful Drake's music has been even without an official single in stores. Since February DJ's have been playing songs from So Far Gone, and he has been doing shows all over the world on the strength of this Mixtape. There has even been an attempt to sell a fake Drake album. Well wait no longer, the official first single Best I Ever Had is now available on iTunes, and he shot the video for it last week in NYC (directed by Kanye West)

Busta Rhymes Ft. Big Tigger - "If You Don't Know, Now You Know"

Here is the 2nd video from the Back On My Bullshit album. This is creative interview-style song where Busta and Tigger rhyme back and forth and actually address a few issues that have come up since the last album.

Technology: Shop With Your Mobile Phone

If you live in Canada, you will no longer require cash, credit cards or a debit card when you hit the mall.

Bell, Rogers, and Telus joined forces and are pioneering an effort to bring forth a "common standard and interoperability" for mobile money transfers across all networks

via:cbc
Mobile phone users with a plan with Bell, Solo, PC Mobile, Rogers, Fido or Telus will be able to register for the service online and then download the Zoompass software onto their phone. By using the software on the phone, they will be able to send, request and receive money to other mobile phones via SMS text messaging, or, if the other user is also a Zoompass account holder, via email.

Money can be drawn from an account the user sets up or from their credit card. Each withdrawal will cost 50 cents from the account, or 3.5 per cent of the transaction if from a credit card. (As a result, sending dollar amounts under $15 are actually cheaper to do using a credit card.)

If you are interested in enrolling check out www.zoompass.com. for more info.

EVENT: Roundtable Ent. present 2000 Til' FEVER FRIDAY Edition

Roundtable Ent. is at it again... this time it's for their monthly installment of 2000 Til' FEVER FRIDAY Edition. All going down this Friday at the CATHOUSE and newly added SKYBAR PATIO (which was blessed by The Clipse last week).

Check out video from last week's events, we guarantee you will enjoy!

Weekend Rundown

If you were in Toronto this weekend and wanted to get out – you definitely had some options. Here’s a rundown of my picks.

Thursday night I went down to Circa and attended the, “Give Money, Make Change” fundraiser benefiting The Remix Project. For those unfamiliar, The Remix Project is an arts, cultural and life skills incubator serving young people located in the heart of Toronto that works to help some of the most gifted but vulnerable young people in the city to realize their own creative and business-minded potential.

The “Give Money, Make Change” event was an effort to raise funds for Remix and help save the program. With a live performance by some of its former participants, a display of artwork from those who have come through the program, a host of sponsors and a silent auction they were able to generate some serious support.

Slakah The Beatchild also held his album release party marking the release of “Soul Movement: Volume 1”. It was a full house at The Revival that night a great line of guest artists including: Tona, Ayah Yousef, Divine Brown, Ray Robinson, D.O., and Melanie D. joined Slakah on stage. If you missed it, you can watch the full show On Demand at www.toflo.com/tv.

Friday night, KRS-One graced The Opera House in an event held by The Wildcore. As expected, KRS brought the house down rocking classics like, “My Philosophy”, “The Sound of the Police”, and “Love’s Gonna Get You”. Professor D, The Wildcore, and Scott Jackson performed. Michie Mee was also in attendance.

On Saturday, my family and I made it over to “Woofstock” - the largest outdoor festival for dogs in all of North America. Woofstock is the go-to event of the year for dogs and the people who love them. More than 200 companies offered the latest in every conceivable doggie indulgence - pooch paraphernalia from food, fashion and furnishings, to toys, gadgets and unique pet services.

Honey Jam – the all-female HYPE talent showcase produced by PhemPhat featuring Canadian based dj's and artists of varied cultural backgrounds and musical genres held its auditions on Sunday at The Mod Club. Over 60 acts crossed the stage hoping to make it to the Honey Jam concert in Augusthip hop, jazz, gospel, pop, dancehall, opera, blues, r&b, rock and even country were some of the genres represented during the auditions. The next Honey Jam showcase takes place August 16, 2009 at the Mod Club - 722 College Street. See www.honeyjam.com for info on tickets and artists performing. To see some of the auditions, check out the On Demand Concert folder at www.toflo.com/tv.

Until next weekend PEACE!

Drake on his Conan O'Brien appearance

EVENT RUN-DOWN: Santigold Live in Toronto @ PHOENIX

Gotta apologize for the delayed reviewed, but Santigold's performance a couple weeks back is definitely worth noting.

I was first introduced to Ms. Santi by way of a purchased CD via a good friend of mine and fellow TOFLO blog contributor @RoShine. I was a bit skeptical at first because I am not a big rock/alternative concept type gal. I played it a few times on a long drive to the NYC, which happens to be Santigold's home town (Brooklyn to be exact). And well what can I say, after that it was love at a couple plays :-)

When her Toronto date was announced, it was definitely a show that sparked the team's interest. Funny enough though, not a lot of people knew about it. Come the night of I wasn't sure what to expect. Aside from, really enjoying her album from front to back, I couldn't understand one lyric in any of her songs LOL. Nonetheless, she made it a point to ensure her performance was interactive, energetic and more importantly entertaining.

Her opening act was Philly native Amanda Blank. Who quasi rapped/sang her ass off. She was cool and I thought made a great compliment to Santi. She started with Hold the Line, which is a feature she did with Major Lazer & Mr. Lexx, and continued through her entire catalog on her first self-titled studio release LP. For The Creator, she had members of the audience jump up on stage to dance with her and her 2 very talented dancers to whom she referred to as SG1's. I swear after seeing them dance I was almost inspired to get my MC Hammer pants on and start rocking out like I was on America's Best Dance Crew. Action word there was ALMOST. Thanks to the sturdy arm of @RoShine we managed to get most of the concert on video. Even though we were told to shut it down by the security. A lil' too late if you ask me but I am grateful nonetheless to be able to share it with you all that weren't able to get tickets.

While leaving completely satisfied with that evening's event, the team decided that we would try and see if we could get our TOFLO drops (as per the usual). We managed to talk with Trouble Andrew (Santigold's fiance BTW), Amanda Blank (who talked to loving the city), and of course Santigold herself. We weren't able to get much out of her, because she was understandably very tired and was being corralled into her awaiting SUV to make her way to her next tour stop (MTL).

Bottom line, her live band performance was well worth the $25. Honestly, I think it was worth a hell of a lot more (but I am not complaining). A big SHOUT OUT to the promoter who realized that YES we are in a damn recession and for that our wallets thank you!

To see our coverage, check out our ON Demand folder on www.toflo.com/tv.

Beyonce Ft. Kanye West - "Ego" (Remix)

Birdman Ft. Lil' Wayne, Rick Ross & Young Jeezy- "Always Strapped" (Remix 2)

This is a much better version then the previous one, this time including Officer Ricky & Jeezy. Unfortunately Birdman's is still on this song...

Sunday, June 14, 2009

Birdman Ft. Lil Wayne & Mack Maine - "Always Strapped" (Remix)

Originally this song was meant to be for the joint album by Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana called I Can't Feel My Face, but since Camron wouldn't allow clearance for any of the colabs Juelz did at the time, the project never saw full fruition. The song has now been remixed and features Birdman and Weezy's right hand man Mack Maine. I predict this will be one of the big songs of the summer.

New Video: Justin Bieber - "One Time"

If you haven't heard of him by now, get used to hearing the name. Justin is a 15 year old kid from Stratford, Ontario that got a deal with Def Jam based on this YouTube audition. L.A. Reid has now tasked Usher with taking this talented kid under his wings and turning him into the next Justin Timberlake. This is the official video for this 1st single “One Time”; produced by Tricky Stewart.

Linkin Park – "New Divide"

I been a fan of Linkin Park way before their Jay-Z collaborations. This video was filmed on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie, and will be on the sountrack along with Sky Might fall by KiD CuDi.

Side note: Sometimes it feels good to post a song, and not have to say "feat. so and so...) I guess that is why he is Mr Solo Dolo.

Jamie Foxx & Drake - Digital Girl Remix (Conan O'Brien Live)

We love Drake, and we are very proud of him. But he could have looked up at the crowd or cameras at least once. Maybe his first national TV appearance got the best of him??

Nicole Wray - "I Like It"

You might remember Nicole from back in the day when she was down with Missy Elliot, and appeared on songs such as All In My Grill, and Make It Hot. Well after 2 failed business ventures with Missy and Dame Dash she is back with a new single "I Like It". The beat is jacked from 2pac's I Get around, but with a rnb twist. Check it out.

Clipse Ft. Pharrell - "I’m Good"

Why are they not in the same room together? Is that Kim Porter's rules? Why is Diddy so corny? What is she hinting at?
