GIVE MONEY, MAKE CHANGE REMIX PROJECT: FUNDRAISER JUNE 11 @ CIRCA

The Remix program serves gifted but under-served and vulnerable young people across the GTA through courses fostering arts, cultural and life skills. The Remix Project has helped to keep a number of young people off the streets and produced talented, newly motivated individuals.

After 3 successful years of operation, its original funding through a research and pilot grant by the National Crime Prevention Canada (NCPC) has come to an end. In spite of this circumstance, The Remix Project is looking to its community to raise $100,000 to save the program and relocate its offices. All happening on June 11, 2009 at CIRCA with a Reception, Art installation and Silent Auction at 6 PM followed by a night of fun-filled dancing till the lights come on.

Those interested in supporting The Remix Project can contact Gavin Sheppard at 647-330-6345.

MELANIE FIONA “The Bridge” unveiled at Harlem Restaurant

Last night many of Toronto’s industry taste-makers gathered at Harlem Restaurant to take in a special listening session for T-dot’s own Melanie Fiona. Unveiling a number of select tracks from her upcoming debut album ‘The Bridge’, Melanie threw down an impromptu live and interactive performance providing insight to the collective mood, variety and contributions throughout the record. Starting out the night singing her smash hit ‘Give It To Me Right’ her performance and song selection didn’t disappoint from that point. Track after track offered more gems and justified the anticipation and glowing support that many have showered on this soon to be pop star - including the renowned glowing endorsement received from Kanye West himself. Perfectly fusing Rock, Soul and Contemporary R&B – Melanie showcased a flawless album with an international feel highlighted by a reggae-flavoured tune ‘AyYo’ which allowed Melanie to flaunt her ability to move a crowd. Hands were in the air after the pop-hit warmed up the audience and the heads didn’t stop nodding till well after the last ballad trailed off.

With a stellar collection of industry heavy-weight producers and song writers, there is no doubt that from start to finish, the debut LP “The Bridge” will engage a whole new audience of music lovers with its release in the Spring/Summer of ’09.

Keep your eyes fixed on this rising star, as there is no question her Cinderella Story to stardom is just beginning. You go girl… rep T-Dot hard – we got you!

CONCERT RUN DOWN: Drake

via @AFMpeetah

Well well well, what a wonderful day in my neighbourhood. My apologies for the delayed review of one of the biggest concerts in TO history - I wanted to make sure I had all my thoughts together before I really got into it. So here goes 3, 2, 1...

LAMES

Besides the 100 and 1 bodies squeezing me up like a tight-ass tube sock, I really have nothing to note in this category, so you can skip along to the Fames.

FAMES
  1. The energy in the venue was absolutely amazing. What four grown, semi-famous and several album-releases-deep artists couldn't pull off... one young, fresh-faced, no-album & no-video having kid from the burbs did 10 fold. Read my review of the Rick Ross crap show.
  2. With over 2,500 eager and awaiting fans... Drake started his set, it was like one giant karaoke night lead by the world's greatest.
  3. Clearly, TO loves them some Drake [period]
  4. Lastly, I was able to get a good amount of video footage of the show... I have included it below for you viewing pleasure. And if you missed the concert, you can "Thank Me Later".

MUSIC: Melanie Fiona "Island Boy"

Something new off Ms. Melanie Fiona's upcoming album "The Bridge". Nice lover's rock vibe, really feeling this track.

Oh Sweet Baby Jesus, Tell Me This Isn't Real...

Can someone please me what in the world is going on here?

All because of a wrist band... OMG!

CONCERT RUN DOWN: Rick Ross, Yung Joc, Ron Browz & Bobby V.

I am gonna have to apologize in advance as I wasn't able to make it out to the concert on time... SORRY. So I wasn't able to see any of the performances, mind you from the time I did arrive I was stuck camping out backstage, you would have thought I was in the forest.

The picture I was able to get from my partner A of Mr. Bobby V. and his naked short self was well, umm, yeah...

Moving on...

LAMES
  1. The 12-year old girls looking like the concert was a casting call for Little X's next production... SMH.
  2. Despite the lack of bodies in the chairs, the people that were there were acting like they were sitting in a library, eerily quite for a rap concert.
  3. Bobby V.'s so-called entourage were all operating under aliases and no one could find him after he performed apparently he went into hiding.
  4. Rick Ross walked in and out of the venue through the Zamboni garage door *LOL* and refused to talk to media.
FAMES
  1. Everybody showed up and performed their asses off.
  2. Ron Browz and Yung Joc were damn P-R-O-F-E-S-S-I-O-N-A-L, I am so happy to report.
  3. The line-up and the process to obtain our media passes was efficient and ran seamlessly.
  4. My praises go out to Teresa C. for organizing the drops with the artist for us, she made our experience easy and effortless.

TOFLO LOVE

As a Concerned Citizen of the World

Honestly, what in the world is really going on in this video? This is a serious WTF!!!!! Someone did eventually get hurt, did we not learn as children that jumping on someone's head would inevitably lead to someone getting hurt? For real people, grow the hell up!

And just for fun, I thought I would add this in... why? Because it just goes to show that music as a whole is global and people are watching. Be AWARE!

MUSIC: New! Drake feat. Tanya Morgan "Right to Left"

This track features Tanya Morgan an unearthed gem from Drake's Comeback Season Mixtape recording sessions. Being mutual admirers of one another, Drake joined forces with Tanya Morgan for this track.

The beat gains strength from its aggressive drums, punchy synth chords and contrasting piano melody, and provides an ideal backdrop for this old-school crew banger. The track opens with a verse by Donwill, moves on to a verse by Von Pea, then a third verse by Ilyas and finally wraps up with a verse by Drake, each emcee spitting about why he is one of the best in the game.

IMPORTANT: Bring Victoria George Home

UPDATE: 12:26PM April 29, 2009 Since being admitted to a Peterborough hospital yesterday morning, it is with great sadness we report Victoria George-Pazzano passed away last night. She was 29 years old. Our prayers are with the family. Read more at The Canadian Press.

UPDATE: 2:55PM April 28, 2009, Seems like all the media attention has prompted the Canadian government to overturn their decision to allow Victoria George back home. Read the updated Toronto Star article. Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word.

UPDATE: 11:00AM April 28, 2009, The media is gaining more traction on the story, here's an article in today's Toronto Star and on cbc.ca. Let's hope that this media coverage will help bring Victoria home.

While vacationing in Mexico, Victoria George-Pazzano suffered a very sever asthma attack. Since being admitted to a Mexico hospital, Canadian-born Victoria has been denied entry back into Canada to receive the proper treatment. Canadian officials have concluded that she may have been exposed to the Swine flu and will not reverse their decision to allow her home. On numerous occasions Mexican health officials have ruled out the Swine flu as she did not display any signs, symptoms or pathologies of the illness.

For more information please check out her sister's Facebook note or join the group.

Please continue to spread the word, she's in very critical condition and her family here in Toronto would like to bring her home.

You can watch the video of Victoria's family frustration at CP24.com.

Rochester - Unity Benefit

via builtfromthegroundup.com

We’re fundraising for the Zewditu Meshesha Children & Family Welfare Development Association in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The orphanage houses about 60 orphans and during the day over 500 kids & youths attend for schooling & work training. This is something we’re doing to give back, Rochester has actually visited the orphanage and met the kids personally. Since he came back and told me about the experience we’ve been trying to get this poppin to help them out, and its finally coming to fruition.

We have all gotten together to make a difference in the lives of these kids and to assist the workers of the orphanage who selflessly give their all day in & day out. We all party every now and then, but on the 24th of April we’re doing so to help those who deserve it.
